Global compostable packaging enterprise, BioPak, has today announced a range of online resources to help customers and consumers navigate the upcoming single-use plastic bans for Western Australia and South Australia.
With Stage 2 (WA) and Stage 4 (SA) single-use plastic bans coming into effect on Sunday 1 September for both states, the B Corp has created two new online resources to help businesses identify which plastic products are now banned, and the suitable certified compostable alternatives that are currently available.
Such approved products include BioCane lids for paper bowls and containers – recognised as a sustainable and functional alternative for the ubiquitous clear plastic takeaway containers – as well as plant fibre lids for ice-cream which has been identified as the only solution for such services as ice-cream delivery.
For South Australia, plant fibre coffee cup lids will provide a cost-effective alternative for businesses as the state prepares to ban all plastic lids and plastic lined coffee cups. Across both states, sushi trays will undergo a significant change with the banning of clear and black based bento boxes, with BioPak currently providing a plant fibre solution and introducing FSC-certified paper trays this September.
“We have worked hard on creating a range of products and resources that aim to remove the overwhelm and guesswork when it comes to navigating the latest round of single-use plastic plastic bans for South Australia and Western Australia,” said BioPak CEO Gary Smith.
“We have a range of certified compostable products that have been approved by the plastic ban regulations and are a viable solution and alternative to single-use plastics. We have also indicated the best cost saving alternatives to ensure customers are getting the most suitable and cost effective product for their needs.
“Our BioCane Lids, by way of example, are half the price of paper and are a similar price point to plastic. This information is labelled clearly on our online resource page and throughout the website. Our goal is to dispel the myth that sustainable means excessively expensive, providing a viable solution that doesn’t hit the hip pocket of cafe owners, restaurants and business owners.”
