Business Green Energy, supported by Northern Beaches Council, is offering the opportunity for local businesses across the Northern Beaches to join a 100% renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

This is believed to be the first NSW aggregated PPA tailored to local businesses supported by a Council.

By aggregating the load of participating businesses, the program aims to provide price savings typically available only to large industrial users while supporting the Flyers Creek Wind Farm near Orange.
Business Green Energy, supported by Northern Beaches Council is calling on local businesses to register for a first-of-its-kind Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Northern Beaches. Commencing on 1 July 2024, the deal will help reduce power prices, offer long-term energy price certainty and grow the use of renewable energy on the Beaches, consistent with Council’s sustainability commitments.
By harnessing the collective purchasing strength of local businesses, the PPA program intends to substantially decrease electricity expenses for the companies that participate. With businesses facing record volatility in energy costs, a PPA can reduce pricing risk and help meet sustainability targets. For local businesses, a PPA is expected to be cheaper, more efficient, and less complex than going it alone. This is a revolutionary initiative supported by Northern Beaches Council that could be replicated locally and elsewhere, giving businesses cheaper energy and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a view to a cleaner, greener world.
To bring this program to life, Council has partnered with Business Green Energy who aggregates the local business electricity demand and finds the best option in the market. Business Green Energy has now successfully reached a deal with Iberdrola – one of the world’s global leaders in clean energy.

Craig Laundy, from Laundy Hotels, who has an existing PPA says, “Signing on to our PPA, including the Manly Pacific, has been a game-changer for our business. Not only have we significantly reduced our carbon footprint, but we’ve also seen a noticeable reduction in energy costs. This approach has benefited our bottom line and commitment to a more sustainable future.”
Northern Beaches Council has already made excellent savings since putting a 100 per cent Renewable PPA in place for its own electricity usage with Iberdrola Australia in 2021 achieving its sustainability targets well ahead of time. Local business accounts for 37 per cent of the Northern Beaches overall carbon footprint, with more than 70 per cent of those emissions coming from electricity.
Sue Heins, Mayor of Northern Beaches Council also commented on the partnership, saying, “We are pleased to be supporting Business Green Energy to offer a first-of-its-kind initiative to local Northern Beaches businesses, which will not only benefit our local community but also contribute to our broader sustainability goals. By choosing clean energy sources, businesses are taking a significant step towards reducing both their carbon footprint and the local community’s too.”
With businesses facing record volatility in energy costs, now is the time to embrace a renewable PPA to reduce pricing risk, lower costs and help meet sustainability targets. Council is now inviting local businesses to register with Business Green Energy on their website by 15 December 2023.
