Community members in Anakie and Norlane will have a chance to raise issues with their local councillors this Saturday (23 October), as a second round of councillor ‘Listening Post’ sessions for 2021 gets underway.
Windermere Ward councillors Anthony Aitken and Kylie Grzybek – representatives of Greater Geelong’s northern suburbs and towns – will be available to chat informally about any topics of interest at the following locations:
9.30am-10.30am
Anakie Community House
2115 Geelong-Ballan Rd, Anakie
11.30am-12.30pm
Norlane Community Centre
39A Rose Ave, Norlane
The sessions are part of a commitment from all councillors to making themselves accessible to the community by visiting locations within their wards during the year.
All councillors participated in an initial round of Listening Posts in May, with follow-up dates for the Brownbill, Bellarine and Kardinia wards to be announced soon.
Councillor Grzybek said she was looking forward to visiting Anakie and Norlane, after previously holding Listening Posts in Lara and Corio.
“These sessions are a good chance to connect with people face-to-face in a relaxed environment,” Cr Grzybek said.
“Everyone is invited and encouraged to come along and speak with us about any council matter they want to raise.”
Councillor Aitken said it was important to gain an understanding of the distinct issues facing each town or suburb.
“As councillors we need to represent each community equally, and being there in person to speak with residents helps us to do that,” Cr Aitken said.
“It’s also an opportunity for the community to find out about council projects already underway that will benefit their local area.”
All community members are welcome to attend the sessions and there is no requirement to pre-register.
Each session will be held in a COVID-safe manner in line with government directions.
