Diversifying supply chains, sustainability and circularity, and digitalisation will be high on the agenda as Finland’s world-leading critical minerals and battery industry showcase its expertise at the International Mining and Resource Conference (IMARC).

The conference comes at a key moment as Finland and Australia look to reaffirm and strengthen their dual commitment to utilising critical minerals to achieve a mutually beneficial transition to net zero.

The theme of this year’s conference, Accelerating the Critical and Responsible Pathway to Net Zero, is apt as Australia seeks partners to achieve its renewable energy objectives with Finland taking centre stage as the world leader in sustainable and circular mining and mineral solutions.

The Finland Spotlight session is set to draw attention as the burgeoning relationship between the two nations will shape the future of critical minerals, an essential element for the transition to net zero, and the industry’s successful decarbonisation.

Finland is an ideal partner for Australia as a hub for research, development and innovation across the minerals value chain with an estimated 80% of the world’s underground mining technology coming from Finland and Sweden.

Finland has world-leading capabilities and expertise across the battery and minerals value chain are of particular importance. From extraction and processing to manufacturing and recycling, Finland offers solutions across the entire battery supply chain which are essential for Australia’s successful transition.

Birgit Tegethoff, Senior Advisor for Business Finland Australia, said:

“We are excited to invite industry to IMARC 24 and look forward to strengthening an international relationship with massive potential and significant implications for both nations. The strength of these international relationships will ultimately dictate the success of Australia’s energy transition.

“We understand that only through collaboration will we achieve our like-minded goals, and we know that Finnish solutions, enabled by digital technologies such as 6G, AI and quantum, will improve circularity, efficiency and sustainability across the entire industry.”
