We are responsible for the removal of seaweed and seagrass from beaches under our management.
Collection of seaweed or seagrass wrack that has been washed up on the beach, for personal use in your garden, is allowed. Please collect by hand and make sure you are not in a marine protected area, for example: Swan Bay, Point Lonsdale headland.
Removal of accumulated marine debris by the City, will only be undertaken periodically during the warmer months of the year and only at selected beaches. On occasions, accumulated seagrass wrack may generate an odour. This is a natural part of the decomposition process and is not dangerous.
When you contact our Customer Service Team to request removal of seaweed on a foreshore reserve you will need to tell us:
- your name
- your contact details
- the exact location of the seaweed you would like removed.
