This guide describes the variety of nature reserves managed by the City. It also provides tips on what those who live near, or visit, our nature reserves can do to help protect them.
The City manages over 80 nature reserves covering a huge 1,400 hectares in area. These reserves range from forested areas in the Brisbane Ranges to the north, through to grasslands and woodlands on the Victorian Volcanic Plains, to coastal dune systems in the south. The reserves can range in size from less than 1 hectare to over 100 hectares and each requires careful management to protect the environmental values.
To conserve such large natural areas we require support from the community and from those who live nearby our reserves. This guide has been developed to help the community learn about the values of our nature reserves and what they can do to look after them.
