A vision to herald a calendar of safe and successful events has been set following the release of new event planning documentation.
The Glenelg Shire Council has recently released its Draft Event Policy for community feedback. The document outlines legislative and accessibility requirements, funding, and operational guidelines for public events across the Shire.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the draft Policy demonstrates Council’s commitment to supporting and growing local events, and the immeasurable contribution they provide in terms of social and economic impacts.
“Each year, Council delivers and supports a number of festivals and events across the Shire. In addition to events that are run by Council, there are many events held on Council owned or managed land that are organised and delivered by community,” she explained.
“The level of planning needed for individual events can differ greatly and this policy, together with the Glenelg Event Management Guidelines, will assist in providing clear guidance to event organisers to ensure their events are successful, sustainable and compliant.
“The policy also outlines Council funding, and how groups can access financial support for their events and programs.
“We hope to see large-scale community events once again being held throughout 2022 and this new policy will help our region experience a seamless and successful transition.”
Cr Rank said that free workshops would be held in the coming months to support and empower event organisers.
“To assist the community in developing documentation that may be required as a result of this new policy, a series of Event Management workshops will be held, free of charge to our event organisers,” she said.
“These workshops are scheduled for later this year pending COVID-19 restrictions. In the meantime we encourage community members, particularly those who are involved with coordinating local events, to view the draft policy and provide their feedback.
“We want to ensure this policy is as streamlined as possible for event organisers to ensure our Shire can continue to offer an exciting array of diverse events.”
The draft policy is now available to view and provide feedback on via the Your Say Glenelg website or Glenelg Shire Customer Service Centres.
