A new image of Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was released by the palace on Monday evening ahead of her second birthday on May 2nd.
Born at St Mary’s Hospital Central London, Charlotte looked every bit of a true “toddler fashionista” with her hair neatly pinned to the side with a blue clip, and donning a knitted lemon cardigan, with blue sheep circling the neckline.
It didn’t take long for fashion followers to track down the cardigan, tracing it back to John Lewis, where it is believed to have sold out within minutes.
The Dutchess herself a avid photographer, has once again moonlighted as official royal photographer, capturing her daughter Princess Charlotte, at their country compound in rural Norfolk, Anmer Hall.
It is understood that the Duke and Dutchess will host a low key birthday party for Charlotte at Anmer Hall, just ahead of her debut as flowergirl for aunt Pippa’s pending nuptials on May 20th.
Princess Charlotte has not made many public appearances, her first official engagement was during the Royal Tour of Canada late last year. She was last seen with her parents at Christmas time as they made their way to church near the home of her grandparents Michael and Carole Middleton in the Berkshire village of Bucklebury. It is understood she will begin nursery school later this year.
In November, the Duchess opened up about her daughter Princess Charlotte. She described the young royal as “extremely chatty” and “always wants to have a play date” with her big brother.
Whilst the Duke and Dutchess continue to raise their children in privacy out of the public eye, and carefully guarded, they hope in doing so will allow them to be raised with a sense of normality.
Charlotte is the fifth great-grandchild for Her Majesty the Queen, or more affectionately known as ‘Gan Gan’ to both of Prince Williams children.
Forth in line to the throne following The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and of course brother George, she is also the highest ranking female in line to the throne, just ahead of Princesses Beatrice (7th) and Eugenie (8th).
In a statement Kensington Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess are very pleased to share this photograph as they celebrate Princess Charlotte’s second birthday”.
“Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank everyone for all of the lovely messages they have received, and hope that everyone enjoys this photograph of Princess Charlotte as much as they do.”
