With the world passing the halfway mark to the Paris Agreement and environmental regulations tightening, the necessity for Australian businesses to adapt and embrace sustainable practices has never been more critical. To assist Australian businesses with their transition to net zero, the UN Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA) is launching the third iteration of its successful Climate Ambition Accelerator program, now expanded to include participants from New Zealand/Aotearoa.
Led by the United Nations Global Compact with global support from WSP and 21Holistik, the Climate Ambition Accelerator aims to scale-up credible climate action across companies of all sizes, sectors, and regions, enabling them to deliver on meaningful commitments to reduce emissions at scale. This year, the UNGNA is being supported at a regional level by thinkstep-anz.
The six-month accelerator program, designed for UNGCNA members, offers expert-led learning. It places a special emphasis on managing Scope 3 emissions and aligns with the latest global sustainability guidelines, such as those from the Science Based Target initiative.
The program helps participants navigate complex climate reporting challenges and connect with industry leaders, building their confidence in their ability to drive meaningful change. It is designed for participants aiming to understand the transition to net zero and set ambitious science-based emissions targets. Through a combination of self-learning modules and collaboration sessions, participants will delve into target setting, disclosure, and the execution of impactful sustainability initiatives.
The accelerator encourages entities across all sectors to embrace science-based targets and leadership in understanding and reporting against their scope 3 emissions. This strategic approach not only fuels innovation but also drives sustainable growth and solidifies an organisation’s commitment to its future.
Stressing the urgency for businesses to address the challenges of climate change, Kate Dundas, Executive Director of the UNGCNA, said: “The window for meaningful action to avert the most severe impacts of climate change is closing rapidly and time is of the essence. As climate-based reporting continues to take centre stage in Australia this year, our Climate Ambition Accelerator program provides businesses with the essential tools to navigate this new landscape effectively. It’s about future proofing your business.”
“This course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to apply science-based targets effectively, helping them to grasp their importance and impact in today’s landscape,” Ms. Dundas added.
Previous participants of the UNGCNA’s Climate Ambition Accelerator program include climate leaders and top ASX 200 seeking to navigate the evolving landscape and step up on scope three, as well as small and medium sized business who are still developing their sustainability strategies. Participants have testified the valuable insights gained on target setting, understanding the transition to net zero, and fostering a strong community of business leaders dedicated to environmental stewardship.
Registrations for the Regional Climate Ambition Accelerator in Australia and New Zealand/Aotearoa are now open until Tuesday, 30 April.
